CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR:

(i) PRELIMINARY DESIGN AND SHIP BUILDING/CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION OF THE PROPOSED CONTAINER SHIP/WAGON FERRY TO REPLACE MV KABALEGA AND

(ii) IMPROVEMENT TO PORT FACILITIES AT PORT BELL AND JINJA PIER

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFPs)

1. The Government of the Republic of Uganda (GoU) has allocated funds and intends to apply part of the proceeds of these funds to the cost of acquisition of consultancy services for: (i) preliminary design and ship building/ construction supervision of the proposed Container Ship/Wagon Ferry to replace MV Kabalega and (ii) improvement to Port Facilities at Port Bell and Jinja Pier.

2. The Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for the provision of consul¬tancy services for: (i) preliminary design and ship building/construction supervision of the proposed Container Ship/Wagon Ferry to replace MV Kabalega and (ii) improvement to Port Facilities at Port Bell and Jinja Pier.

3. Bidding will be conducted in accordance with the open international bidding procedures contained in the Govern¬ment of Uganda's Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act, 2003, and are open to all bidders.

4. Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information from the Head, Procurement and Disposal Unit (HPDU), Ministry of Works and Transport and inspect the bidding documents at the address given below at 7(a) from 8.00am -5.00pm (local time), Monday to Friday.

5. A complete set of Bidding Documents in English may be purchased by interested bidders on submission of a written application to the address below at 7(a) and upon payment of a non-refundable fee of U.shs. 100,0007= or an equiva¬lent in a freely convertible currency. The method of payment will be Bank Advice Form (BPAF) obtainable from the MoWT's Cash Office, plot number 4/6, Airport Road Entebbe. Bidders shall be issued the bidding document by Head, Procurement and Disposal Unit (HPDU) after paying the non-refundable fee.

6- Bids must be delivered to the address below at 7(b) at or before 11.00am (local time) on the 23rd March 2009. All bids must be accompanied by a bid security of U.shs 30,000,000/= or an equivalent amount in a freely convertible currency. Late bids shall be rejected. Bids will be opened in the presence of the bidders' representative who choose to attend at the address below at 7(c) at 11.30am (local time) on 23rd March, 2009.
